There are instances when a drug you’re on is taken off the Formulary, however you get 60 days advanced notice of the change. Your options are change drugs, pay extra for it or ask for an exception. What usually happens is you will be allowed to continue taking the drug until the end of the year. This would give you lots of time to make other arrangements.
Using the Formulary for your plan generally saves you money, as will using generic brand drugs. They’re exactly the same as brand name drugs, just less expensive. Virtually half of the prescriptions picked up today are generic drugs. There are some cases where you can’t get a generic drug as a substitute for a brand name drug. Your doctor should be able to suggest an alternative.
